On June 11th and 12th the first AXIOM workshop took place at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. Professor Mateo Valero, Scientific Director of BSC, gave a short keynote about the birth of the computer architecture research in Europe with emphasis on Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs).
The first day was dedicated to tutorials. Afterwards, specific research topics were discussed.

For the tutorials, Prof. Xavier Martorell, BSC, introduced a demo of OmpSs for FPGAs and clusters aimed at easy programming for future generation CPSs. Prof. Roberto Giorgi, UNISI and AXIOM Project Coordinator, introduced performance evaluation tools such as HPLabs COTSon for system simulation. Then Prof. Dionisios N. Pnevmatikatos, FORTH, illustrated Xilinx FPGA-based models for fast interconnects. After that, Prof. Antonio Rizzo, UNISI, detailed and explored the envisioned application scenarios.

The second day Prof. Xavier Martorell, BSC, illustrated preliminary results of a face detection application developed in cooperation with partner HERTA SECURITY. Afterwards, Dr. Paolo Gai, EVIDENCE, examined in depth the mechanisms for managing application constraints. Dr. Davide Catani thus carried on the discussion by focusing on the suitable chip for actually realizing the board, considering a balance between performance and budget. Prof. Roberto Giorgi held a second talk about low level interfaces for thread distribution and Maurizio Caporali updated the partners about dissemination actions. Partner VIMAR then illustrated possible scenarios for smart home applications.
